Thorpe won by 3 wickets

Illston Abbey 182 all out. Thorpe Arnold 184-7

Thorpe travelled to Illston buoyed up by their comfortable win against Hinckley the previous week expecting a much sterner test of their capabilities against the number 3 team in the division

Illston batting first never really got going losing 2 quick wickets until their number 3 and 5 batsmen started swinging from the hip offering chances which were not taken and the Thorpe's attack after a strong start started to creak in the middle fifteen overs. Skipper Mark Matthews used a combination of different bowlers to try to force the breakthrough. This came with the number 5 batsmen being adjudged caught behind down the legside off the bowling of James Pepperdine. The batsmen was not amused and walked so slowly from the field of play that day started to turn to night in the time it took him to reach the pavilion

This then started the collapse as Illston finished 182 all out with Matthews ending up taking three wickets and Pepperdine four

Thorpe lost Dill and Matthews early but Carel Fourie and Brian Makwana consolidated before Fourie was out and Makwana was caught on the mid wicket boundary trying to clear the ropes, Miller went cheaply but Jonny Weber and Chris Waldron started to claw things back as they put on 40 putting Thorpe in sight of the total before Waldron was out caught at mid off. Sam Woods joined Weber pushing Thorpe closer before Woods was out leaving Richard Randall and well crafted patient innings from Weber seeing Thorpe over the line with plenty of overs to spare

Thorpe and Barkby have now opened a gap on 3rd and 4th place in the table. Shepshed Town visit Thorpe this Saturday
